Day 1 : Viozene to Rifugio Garelli

There is no public transportation to Viozene. The nearest bus stop is in Ponte di Nava. From there, try to catch a ride with some of the other hikers going to Viozene.

From Viozene to Rifugio Garelli. A straightforward hike, but quite long and all in all a long climb. From the town, follow the trail to Rifugio Mongioie. Continue on the path past the Rifugio (passing by the building to the back); the path stays more level for a while, as you round the mountain towards Rifugio Ciarlo Bossi. From there it is up again to the Colle delle Saline and on towards Rifugio Mondovi. From Mondovi it is a short climb and descent to Rifugio Garelli; a nice mountain hut with a great view.
